GWFCC conducts advocacy and outreach campaigns to encourage its members to engage their elected representatives on the issues that impact them. The objective is to be a strategic partner and community driven service program that helps position the fashion community as the quality check-point/clearinghouse of fashion in the Metropolitan Washington area. In so doing GWFCC:
- Serves as the chief advocate of the fashion industry, working to bring key stakeholders together in order to effect change by connecting resources.
- Provides critical information and analysis that is key to the success of any fashion-related business.
- Conducts a survey of the local fashion business environment to assess this region’s resources and needs.
- Generates publications that can guide legislators and other stakeholders in strategically allocating available development and small business assistance resources.
- Is the gatekeeper for analysis of how government legislation changes trade agreements, tariffs, and tax laws that impacts fashion businesses and the Greater Washington economy.
- Connects designers to press and retail buyers.
- Provides strategic counsel to students, organizations, and entrepreneurs.
- Supports fashion programs for adults and youth.
- Sponsors fashion-related events and seminars.
- Advances fashion-friendly policies such as Commission on Fashion Arts & Events, Bill No. 17-173.
Community Outreach Initiatives:
- Community Outreach Spotlight Events & Fashionably Business Events: fashion events and business coordinated to bring brand awareness and networking to fashion designers and fashion businesses that support the community
- Fashion Gala: Annual Gala to celebrate the growth of the organization
- Fashion Convention: Trade event hosting global buyers and sellers of men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel, footwear, accessories and sourcing resources
- Newsletter: GWFCC webcast editorials will embody the sophistication of high-end lifestyles, fashion, and people by celebrating the best, most influential tastemakers in and around Washington, D.C.
