The Washington, DC Fashion Foundation (DCFF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by GWFCC in June 2009 to support the Washington, DC fashion community through educational programs, workforce training initiatives, and networking and mentoring opportunities for aspiring fashion professionals and entrepreneurs. It works closely with GWFCC to undertake the following goals:

  • Increase the business skills and workforce preparedness of fashion entrepreneurs;
  • Improve the quality and availability of fashion design education opportunities for youth and adults in the Washington, DC area;
  • Strengthen the connections and networks that form the foundation of the District’s fashion community.

DCFF Projects:

The Washington, DC Fashion Foundation helps to carry out the following projects:

  • The Washington, DC Fashion Incubator (DCFI) is a key initiative of DCFF and GWFCC. We are currently working to lay the groundwork to develop this state-of-the-art facility that will be equipped with studio spaces, industrial design equipment, a library and business resource center, and space for meetings and events, giving fashion entrepreneurs an unparalleled environment to grow their businesses.
  • Fashion Programs for Youth have always been at the top of DCFF and GWFCC’s agenda. We have helped establish after school sewing and fashion entrepreneurship programs in community recreation centers and schools, hold an annual summer youth employment fashion camp, and have established ProjectFUNDway, a scholarship program for aspiring fashion design students.
  • Fashion Business Training Workshops help existing small local businesses and entrepreneurs adapt to the current economic conditions and learn new skills to succeed. Workshops focus on learning what it takes to start a business, launching a fashion career, and growing an existing fashion company.
